BUS 201: PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT I (2 Units) The course is a general introduction to the concept, principles, processes and significant of management in the context of a changing socio-economic environment particularly in developing nation. Other issues discussed are the role of management and the management function of planning, organizing, staffing, communication, coordination, motivation, directing and controlling. BUS 202: PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT II (2 Units) The course is an extension of the knowledge gained in BUS 201. Emphasis is on concept and features of theory in management, application of these theories in Nigerian organization such the scientific theory, classical school of thought theory, human relation theory, system and contingency theory, theory x and y. managerial grid participative model, management by objective, quantitative and behavioral control model, total quality management and knowledge management. BUS 203: ELEMENTS OF MARKETING (2 Units) Marketing definitions; fundamental concepts in marketing; marketing evolution and phases; role and importance of marketing; the marketing system in Nigeria; marketing viewpoints/perspectives; marketing and contributions from cognate disciplines; science, art and theory in marketing; functions of marketing; buyer behavior and marketing segmentation; marketing analysis; market measurement and forecasting; marketing mix; paradigm shift in marketing; contemporary issues in marketing. BUS 204: BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS (2 Units) Processes of meetings, conferences, seminars, symposium and debates: meeting defined, conduct, procedures, aims and benefits/disadvantages of meetings, written rules affecting meetings, conference, seminar, symposium and debates. Uses of words, sentences and figurative expressions, words and their meanings, synonyms and antonym dynamism in words, and predication, suffixation, sentences /figurative expression. Reports and handover notes: types of reports, components of reports and handover notes. Organisation communication: the concept of organizational communication, factors affecting effectiveness of organizational communication. Types of organizational communication. Public relations and marketing communication. BUS 205: INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS AND PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT (2 Units) Labour in the economy; overview of industrial relations in Nigeria; trade unions and employers association; principles of collective bargaining and wage determination; causes and management of industrial conflicts; theories, principles, modern techniques and practices of personnel management, recruitment, selection and job evaluation; wages and income policy; productivity and manpower planning in Nigeria. BUS 206: MATERIAL MANAGEMENT (3 Units) Material purchase management; organizational of material purchase department; purchase procedure and records; purchase price. Material control: ABC analysis; determination of stock levels re-order quantity. Store organization; types of organization, centralized stores, impress stores and decentralized stores; store location and layout; classification and coding of materials. Store routine records; material requisition control, receipts and issue of materials; store material control records. Perpetual inventory control system. Method of valuing materials issue: material ledger; method of pricing materials issue; treatment of loss materials in stores. BUS 208: PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT (3 Units) This course addresses issues and methods of production/operations management. It gives you introduction to the functional area of production and operations management as practiced in manufacturing industries and the services sector. Topics include: Elements of Production; Production and Process Design and Management, Facility location and Layout; Modern Tools and Machinery of Production, Standards Definition, Line Balancing, Automation, Production Scheduling and Control, Work Study, Maintenance and Tools and Equipment, Quality Control.
