BUS 401: BUSINESS POLICY AND STRATEGY I (3Units) Concepts of strategy in relation to business. Corporations and Management. Linkage between organization and their environments. Concepts of policies, decision-making, business objectives, performance criteria structure, and managerial behaviours. Practice in calculating simple financial and economic indices from business data and other accounting information. Learning the behavioural implications of courses of action. Analysing a firm’s opportunities and treats, strengths and weaknesses. Selecting strategies and structures of public liability companies from their published annual reports. Developing clear business objectives setting clear strategies and policies, and presenting structures that are capable of being used in implementing chosen strategies.

BUS 400: SEMINAR (1 Unit)

Each student must present a seminar. Each student’s seminar topic must be related to the student’s final year project and shall be assessed by oral presentation and defence.

BUS 402: BUSINESS AND STRATEGY II (3Units) How to Evaluate Corporate Strategy; advanced Treatment of Strength and weaknesses; planning Corporate Strategy; Strategic Management & the strategic management Process; Project Implementation; Strategic Resources Allocation Procedure; Financial Aspect of Corporate Policy; Strategy & Business Portfolio; Evaluating your Strategic Planning System; Resources Allocation Model; The theory of optional investment Planning Resources in Nigeria; Factors in lease-Levy Decisions; Lease Vs. Borrowing.

BUS 403: ANALYSIS OF BUSINESS DECISION (3Units) Elements of Decision Analysis, Types of Decision Situation, decision Trees; Operational Research Approach to Decision Analysis, System and System Analysis modeling in or, Simulation; cases for or Analysis, Mathematical programming; Transportation Model. Assignment Model, conflict Analysis and game theory, project management, other models; Inventory, replacement, line balance, routine and sequencing.

BUS 404: BUSINESS ETHICS AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (3 Units)

Different concepts of ethics and social responsibility, societal marketing practice, macro marketing, social responsibility, Activities of marketing, social criticism of marketing, consumerism, environmentalism, green marketing, arguments on marketing ethics in marketing. Differences between ethical and legal behavior in marketing; factors influencing ethical and unethical marketing management decisions. Public Action to regulate marketing enlightened marketing concept, principles of ethical and socially responsible consumer behavior, marketing ethics and responsibility in Nigeria.

BUS 405: LAW BUSINESS AND OF CARRIAGE (3 Units)

Formation of contract – offer and acceptance; other ingredients of a valid contract; classes of contract, misrepresentation, duress and undue influence mistake, illegal and void contracts, discharge of contract. Formation of agency – authority of an agent, relationship between agents, principal and third party, termination of agency. Contract for carriage; Carrier’s liability; common and private carrier; liability for loss and damages of freight/passenger regarding sea transport (Hague-Visby rules, Aliens Conventions, etc.). Air transport (Warsaw Convention, Hague Protocol, etc.); and land (ACCs/Decrees regarding carriage of freight/passenger). Deviation; detention; Payment of freight; Carriage of animals and dangerous goods; special consideration affecting the use of containers; the carrier’s lien. Statutory duties of transport undertakings towards employees. Legal basis of the statutory transport consumers’ organizations e.g. NSC, their Activities and rights and duties.

BUS 406: CORPORATE PLANNING (3Units) The course is intended to provide a working knowledge of the process of formal corporate planning in large organizations in terms of: Concept and theory of planning; Strategic planning; Environmental study and analysis; Technological forecasting; Socio-Political forecasting; Industry Analysis; Planning task and techniques; Operational planning and the resource allocation process; Organization for planning; Organizational and behavioral aspects of planning; Role and skills of the corporate planner and managing and corporate planning processes.

BUS 407: NIGERIAN BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT (2 Units)

The aim of this course is to intimate student with the environment factors such as the political, economical, social, legal factor affecting business operations in Nigeria and the response of businesses to such influence. Other areas covered include forms of business ownership and functions areas of business.

BUS 408: INDUSTRIAL AND LABOUR LEGISLATION (3 Units)

History and sources of Nigerialabour law, salient provisions of the Labour Act , the contract of employment, rights and duties of employer and employee, termination of an employment relationship, remedies for wrongful termination, Trade Disputes Act - trade disputes and industrial Action; industrial dispute settlement machinery Statutes concerning standards, safety and workplace safety, and Employees’ Compensation Act,.

BUS 410: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS (3 Units)

The concept of international business, classical trade theory: introduction, Mercantilism and nation building, free trade, Theory of absolute cost advantage, Theory of comparative advantage, the assumptions of classical trade theory factor proportions and factor intensity, offer curves reciprocal demand and supply, Dynamic factor. Changing the basis of trade, Terms of trade measures, and the effect of tariff; International finance: Balance of payment accounting- Credits, debits, and current account, Balance of payment accounting. The financial accounts, National income, prices and Trade balance, the foreign exchange markets, relatively fixed rate system. The gold and gold exchange standard, International Business Environment.

BUS 412: MARKETING RESEARCH (3 Units)

Identification of Social and Economic of Basic of Consumer Choice, Marketing Research Processes. Sources and Classification of Data, Research Reports and Consumerism with the context of Nigeria. Application of Analytical tools to marketing problems. Marketing research and decision making, research design, value and cost of information. Secondary data, survey research, experimentation. Questionnaire design, attitudinal scales, observation, depth interviews and project techniques, sampling techniques analysis of data, sales forecasting, product and pricing research, promotion and distribution research control evaluation and reporting of marketing research ethnical issues in marketing research.

BUS 414: GLOBAL MARKETING (3 Units)

This course deal with the movement from a domestic marketing situation to one that is global in scope or trans-national, and the uncertainties in the decision process. The course focuses on these marketing complexities. Topics includes Global marketing perspectives, organizing and planning for global marketing, global market research, global market entry and expansion, international advertising, international distribution considerations, licensing and franchising and managing in global marketing.

BUS 499: FINAL YEAR STUDENTS’ PROJECT (6 Units)

Original and individual student project related to a selected Business management problem under the supervision of the academic staff of the Department. The project ends in a comprehensive written report. Students may be required to present their research based report orally before a panel of examiners.
